Project Wonderlands

People Projects

-

Project Wonderlands is an umbrella term for an ongoing series of conceptual environmental art projects in development since 2015 responding to the therapeutic needs of nature reconnection in our urban world; in our ever ‘growing’ concrete jungle.

An interdisciplinary body of work connecting nature, art and therapy. These research-based works explore the art process, ecopsychology and nature re-connection and include various nature-based commissions, workshops, site-specific projects, artist collaborations and field research.

Different projects in different places.

'Mindful' Photo walks

Urban ‘Mindful’ Photo walks

First in a potential ongoing series of experiential nature-reconnection photo “walkshops”.

The Bretton walk shop was devised for local residents to help capture and create a visual sense of place in a seemingly familiar urban environment. Using the photographic ‘process’, various mindfulness techniques and by exploring the surrounding green areas that are sometimes overlooked on everyday ‘A-B ‘ journeys, participants are invited to deepen their observations by exploring feeling and experiencing, rather than simply seeing.

Bretton originally built in the 1970′s as a Township and designed as a green environment is connected to Peterborough’s Green Wheel and offers lots of green space.

Commissioned by artist and urban researcher Katy Hawkins at Peterborough Presents and finished with tea and coffee in the pub!

As part of my Project Wonderlands body of environmental art works.

Vista Utopia. Public installations

Public art series in deprived or vulnerable areas relating to a Landscape ecology theory Biophilia that we are genetically programmed to feel 'safe' looking out to open flat-landscape horizons.

What started off as an imaginary 'mock-up' series of billboards throughout the U.K, by roads, on the underground, in derelict urban environments  in 2015, was realised on a billboard in 2016 on Welland council estate in Peterborough and a second in Dalston, London. With photographs taken from the Fenlands of Peterborough.. Welland was near to the murder plot of the re-opened case 26 years later for the child death of Rikki Nieve. This was a lucky find and a derelict site given permission for me to use from the new land owners.

Dalston Lane is an area currently under threat from building development and high levels of pollution.

With the right funding or commissions, I would like to research further into The Biophilia hypostheis and the science behind other psychological landscape connections, I hope there to be more in multiple U.K locations in the future. Maybe even some further afield. I would like to develop this as a participatory project and welcome landscape imagery; photography and painting from other artists.

Desired locations are on the Underground, by busy roads, built up urban areas.
