Sandra works as a Picture researcher at Guardian Labs.
Her background is as a multidisciplinary artist interested in people and places, producing works that are a social commentary on the world we live in and more often than not, is connecting the two.
With her photography work, Sandra's reportage side plays with visual metaphors and engaging photo stories to candidly or poetically capture, comment or play on our everyday. Sandra's strength is seeing things differently and capturing beauty in the unexpected. With a contemporary style that adds itself to diverse themes including social portraiture, photojournalism, fine art, landscape, and nature photography.
As a nature-based artist with a conceptual art practise rooted in therapeutic processes, Sandra’s interdisciplinary work connects people and environments; the inner and the outer. Responding to the impacts of the lack of nature connection in today’s urban environments, since 2015 she has been developing a body of ongoing environmental artworks under the name of Project Wonderlands. Through a series of participatory people projects, experiential workshops, socially engaged artworks + artist collaborations working outdoors, with nature-based materials or on nature-based themes, this side project and exploratory research-based work aims to connect the dots between art, nature, and therapy.
Sandra originally studied Fine Art at Central Saint Martins and since then has embarked on experiential Ecotherapy training in the woods with the late Martin Jordan and Hayley Marshall in Falmer Brighton and Powdermill Woods in Battle. She has also been part of two annual cycles of ‘The Circle of Trees’ in Highgate woods which is an Environmental Art Therapy group facilitated by Gary Nash & Vanessa Jones of the London Art Therapy Centre in-line with the work by Ian Siddons Heginworth.
